In-Network, Out-of-Network

Private and Self Pay Options

Mathew Diedrich, LCSW, CADC and One Breath at a Time Counseling, PLLC are actively credentialed with two major insurance providers:  Blue Cross Blue Shield and Aetna (all PPO plans).  If you have a plan with any of the many other insurers or are uninsured (or choose not to use your health coverage), services are then provided on a private-pay basis and are therefore considered “out-of-network”.  Most health insurers provide some form of coverage for outpatient psychotherapy, regardless of your provider's credentialing status with them.  While plans vary, most out-of-network insured clients can receive some amount of reimbursement for services provided.

If I am not in-network with your plan, as a courtesy, you will be provided with a “super bill” which contains the necessary billing and diagnostic codes for you to receive the benefits that you are entitled to.  It is recommended that you contact your insurance provider directly and inform them that you are seeing an out-of-network provider for behavioral health (individual outpatient psychotherapy services) to find out exactly what is covered by your insurance policy. Please be advised that a quote of benefits is not a guarantee of payment from your insurer.

Client Rights & Important Information

Good Faith Estimate

The federal “No Surprises Act” grants consumers the right to receive a “good faith estimate” explaining how much their medical and health care will cost.  Under the law, health care providers, including psychotherapists, must give clients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance, an estimate of the expected charges for treatment services.  The act also requires healthcare providers, including psychotherapists, to inform clients of this right.  Additionally, this act requires that information regarding the availability of a good faith estimate must be prominently displayed on the website of all health care providers, including psychotherapists.  You have the right to receive a good faith estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.  You can ask all of your healthcare providers, including your psychotherapist, for a good faith estimate before you schedule a service.  If you receive an invoice that is at least $400 more than your good faith estimate, you can dispute the charge.  Please ensure that you save a copy of your good faith estimate.  For questions or more information about your rights, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises/.
